The story
Pliny wrote that it held the fire of one stone, the purple of another and the green of a third, all at the same time.
Second century BC. Reports reach the Han court of horses in the Ferghana valley, far west beyond the empire, that are faster and taller than anything in China and that sweat something red. Heavenly horses, the reports call them.
Emperor Wu sends an envoy with gold to buy some. The envoy is refused, and killed. So the emperor sends an army. It fails. He sends a larger one. Somewhere around 101 BC, after years and a great many dead men, China gets its horses.
It is one of the few wars in recorded history fought specifically over an animal, and it worked — the bloodline changed Chinese cavalry, and the Silk Road opened partly because those armies had already walked the route.

Wu, the seventh earthly branch, is the double hour from eleven until one — noon. The only branch that sits on the middle of the day. Full sun, no ambiguity, nothing hidden.
The horse is blackened and mid-gallop, and everything around it is gold: the grass beneath, the clouds either side, and a rayed gold sun holding the opal at the top.
Running animals usually look silly in jewellery because the legs get simplified into suggestions. This one keeps all four, which is the reason the piece works from a distance.
The metal is solid 925 sterling silver. The gold is a plated finish over that silver and the horse carries a black finish over the same silver — plating is a surface, it wears with time, the silver underneath does not.

The mane and tail are the slow work. They are cut as separate strands rather than a single mass, which is what stops the horse looking cast.

When would it get here?
It is posted to you directly from our maker, tracked and signed for — to the United Kingdom that is 5–10 days, usually within a week. The date in the buying panel above is the real latest date it should be with you; it moves forward every day and it is not a countdown put there to hurry you.
Is the silver solid, or is it plated?
Solid 925 sterling silver, all the way through. We never plate base metal and call it silver. This particular design carries a plated finish over that silver, which is why it looks the colour it looks. Plating is a surface and it wears; the silver under it does not.
Will my stone look exactly like the photograph?
Closely. Opal is made or treated rather than pulled out of the ground, which means it is far more consistent piece to piece than a natural stone would be. We say which it is on this page rather than leaving you to guess.
How is it worn?
As it comes. The measurements are visible in the photographs above, and the piece is described on the page in the same words we would use in person.
What if I change my mind, or it does not fit?
Fourteen days from the day it arrives to tell us, and a further fourteen to post it back — that is the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, and we do not try to write around it. Faulty or not as described is always our cost. The whole policy is here, in plain English.
Do you post to where I live?
The UK, the twenty-seven EU countries and Australia. To the UK the delivery is free on every order, tracked and signed for. Europe and Australia are free too, apart from the smallest bracelets, where a small tracked postage is shown at checkout, before you pay — never added afterwards. If your country is not on the list at checkout, we cannot post there yet, and we would rather say so than take your money and find out.
Do I have to do the ThetaHealing part?
No. It is a ring, and it is a good ring on its own. The feeling download is written out above so you can read it, use it, or ignore it — nothing is charged for it and nothing is done without your say-so. Some people buy the piece for the stone and never think about the rest, and that is a completely ordinary way to own it.
Is any of this medical?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. What you read here about stones is history and folklore, told as history and folklore with dates and sources.
