Before anyone knew what light was made of, the Romans decided this one was made of moon. Pliny the Elder wrote it down in the first century.
The blue that moves across the surface is adularescence — light scattering between microscopic layers of two feldspars that separated as the stone cooled. It is not a coating and it is not a trick of cutting; it is the internal structure doing it.
June has three stones on the modern list. Moonstone and alexandrite are the two we set.
