Aquamarine

Sailors carried it because it was the colour of the water they were on, and they wanted the water on their side. Aquamarine has since been the stone of calm, clear speech and courage without volume — worn by people who have a hard thing to say and want to say it steadily.

It is beryl, the same mineral family as emerald and morganite; the blue comes from iron sitting in the crystal structure. March's birthstone.
