Obsidian

Volcanic glass, cooled too fast to form crystals — the oldest mirror people made, and the oldest blade. Obsidian is worn for protection, truth and cutting through: the stone for looking at the thing rather than managing it.

The silver sheen is a layer of microscopic gas bubbles trapped as the lava set, throwing light back in a single sweep.
