Malachite

Malachite grows in bands, one ring closing around the last, so it is a stone built entirely out of edges. It has been worn as a protection and boundary stone for thousands of years — ground for pigment in Egypt, set into amulets for children, and kept by people who needed the line to be visible rather than explained.

Copper carbonate, which is where the green comes from. Softer than quartz, so it wants to be kept away from grit.
